Englewood Special Education Advisory Committee (ESEAC)

Englewood Special Education Advisory Committee is an Advisory group consisting of stakeholders that include a balance of parents, educators, administrators, students, and representatives from community agencies who choose to serve in this important role.

The responsibility of the members is to advise and NOT to advocate for an individual position or agenda.  To advise means to inform, counsel, recommend, suggest or guide. To advocate means or position. To favor an individual case or argument. The function of an Advisory committee is to provide advice based on data and good judgement.

The goal of ESEAC is to advise, assist and support the district in its efforts to improve outcomes for all students with disabilities in the district. 

Upcoming Meetings for 2026-2027
All meetings will be at EHS/EMS Library on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 5:30-7pm.  Some meeting dates have been adjusted in order to accommodate holidays and parent teacher conferences.

 

Charge: To increase special education visibility within Englewood School District

Task: Develop a “Recommendations Report” for the school board to consider for future implementation, that will increase special education visibility

  • Month 1: Kickoff- September 24th, 2026
    • Overview of committee purpose and priorities: Increase special education visibility in Englewood School District
    • Review of key recommendation areas:
      • Transparency
      • Awareness
      • Structural Visibility
    • Establish annual goals and success metrics
    • Assign subcommittees or focus groups
       
  • Month 2: Transparency – Defining SPED Outcome Data- October 22nd, 2026
    • Identify what “growth” means for special education students
    • Review current district data practices
    • Discuss gaps in data transparency
    • Begin drafting a framework for reporting student progress via growth
       
  • Month 3: Transparency – Reporting to Parents- November 19th, 2026
    • Develop structure for inclusive, quarterly SPED growth reports
    • Align reports with IEP goals and progress monitoring
    • Gather parent input on report usefulness
       
  • Month 4: Awareness – Celebrations, Communication, Community- January 21st, 2027
    • Plan ways to highlight student and program successes
    • Develop strategy for sharing positive stories, student achievement and recognition opportunities (events, board meetings, social media)
    • Design framework for Special Education newsletter (content, frequency, audience)
       
  • Month 5: Awareness- Professional Development- February 25th, 2027
    • Identify training needs for teachers and staff
    • Focus areas:
      • Inclusive practices
      • IEP implementation
        • Embedded collaboration
      • Communication with families
    • Recommend PD formats (workshops, coaching, online modules)
       
  • Month 6: Structural Visibility – Representation & Embedded Collaboration- March 25th, 2027
    • Review current committee and leadership representation of SPED
    • Identify gaps in inclusion across district committees (DAC etc.)
    • Develop recommendations to ensure SPED voice in decision-making
       
  • Month 7: Review, Evaluation & Report to School Board- April 22nd, 2027
    • Review progress on all initiatives
    • Evaluate impact and areas for improvement
    • Finalize Report of Recommendations to the School Board, including:
    • Prepare presentation and next steps for following year
