Englewood Schools students can earn free college credit while in high school!

Englewood Schools has a robust Concurrent Enrollment (CE) and Dual Enrollment (DE) programs that allows students to simultaneously earn credit toward their high school diploma along with college credit toward an Associate's degree or credit toward a career-focused certificate. Englewood Schools pays the cost of tuition for these classes*.

Students have three options to access Concurrent or Dual enrollment classes:

Students may enroll in college-level classes offered on our high school campuses during the regular school day.
Students may enroll in college-level classes offered on a college campus.
Students may enroll in online college classes.

Benefits of Concurrent and Dual Enrollment

Earning college credits while in high school:

Lowers the cost of college for students and families. CE/DE saves Englewood families over $300,000 each year in tuition!
Gives students a jump start on their college and career goals while still attending high school.
Saves students time in earning college credits that count toward a college level certificate, degree Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Exposes students to the rigors of college at an earlier age, building confidence and better preparing them for postsecondary success.
Provides students access to college resources and support teams like college tutors and advisors.
Allows student to earn weighted high school grades.
May qualify students for participation in the ASCENT or TREP programs.
May provide students with options for demonstrating proficiency for graduation.

Concurrent Enrollment vs. Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment is a term that has been used interchangeably with Concurrent Enrollment, but these are actually two separate programs as defined by Colorado state law. Both programs allow students to take college classes at the high school, on a college campus, or online. However, these programs have some specific differences that are important to note:

Credits earned through Concurrent Enrollment courses are guaranteed to transfer to Colorado institutions because the courses meet strict requirements (courses must apply to a postsecondary degree, certification, gateway course, or be a part of a statewide transfer agreement). Dual Enrollment credits are not guaranteed to transfer because the courses do not have to meet the strict state requirements.
Englewood Schools will pay for the tuition for Concurrent Enrollment courses; families may be responsible for the cost of tuition for Dual Enrollment courses.

*Students taking Dual Enrollment through Project Lead the Way will receive their enrollment paperwork directly from the teacher.

Student Eligibility

To take a Concurrent or Dual Enrollment course, a student must:

Be in grades 9 - 12.
Be under 21 years of age.
Be enrolled as a student in Englewood Schools.
Have applied to and have been accepted into a qualified Colorado college/university.
Meet all prerequisites for the course(s), including required test scores.
Have an updated Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) with your high school counselor.
Apply for the College Opportunity Fund (COF).
Complete all required district paperwork.

Application Process: CE on the High School Campus

Students taking a Concurrent Enrollment class on the high school campus must complete the following steps:

Get your SASID (unique state school ID number) by following the steps linked here, or by asking your counselor or Concurrent Enrollment teacher for it. This number will be needed in later steps.
Complete steps 1-3 on Arapahoe Community College's Concurrent Enrollment website.
Have your parent/guardian sign the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement Form / Acuerdo en Español and submit to your counselor.

*Students taking Dual Enrollment through Project Lead the Way will receive their enrollment paperwork directly from the teacher.

Application Process: CE on the College Campus or Online

* Students taking Concurrent Enrollment at any college other than ACC need to work directly with their counselor to obtain and complete the correct paperwork.
