Academics

Englewood boasts a robust offering of academic opportunities for students in a one of kind, close-knit community. In 2014, the district began a new chapter by rebuilding our schools. Englewood has nine unique schools. When designing our schools, we planned for the physical buildings to be equipped to offer a state of the art education. Englewood Schools provides excellent programs including one-to-one technology for all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, and a library of thousands of electronic books.

Our Early Childhood Center is a comprehensive preschool with a four-star rated Early Childhood Education program. It is a play-based program that helps all children grow academically and socially in a developmentally appropriate way. We have four elementary schools that all have their own niche. Bishop is a neighborhood school with a strong community feel and promotes a positive culture of learning for all. Charles Hay is an International Baccalaureate school. Clayton is a school of the arts and technology where teachers focus on developing our students “head, hand, and heart.” Clayton also earned the Colorado Center of Excellence Award in 2018 and 2019 for their demonstration as one of the highest rated of student longitudinal growth, as measured by the Colorado Growth Model. Cherrelyn was our first STEAM school and continues to excel in the area of STEAM.

At the middle school level, we have Englewood Middle School which continues to build on its tradition of “A CREW” which is Achievement, Community, Respect, Engagement, and Work ethic; Englewood Leadership Academy, which prides itself as a choice middle school, is a multi-year recipient of the John Irwin School of Excellence Award including in 2019. Englewood High School is a traditional high school that features a variety of fine arts, performing arts, athletics, and academic opportunities. Additionally, you will find our award-winning marching band, and it boasts more Boettcher Scholars than any other metro area high school.  Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice is an alternative high school and was founded on the principle that individualism and independence are respected by staff and students. The unique programming has flexible options to meet the needs of students.

Performance

We are in pursuit of remarkable improvements throughout Englewood Schools so that all students graduate as leaders, thinkers, and explorers of tomorrow. Our academic performance continues to improve. At the elementary level, Englewood Schools earned a rating of Accredited. At the middle and high school level, Englewood Schools are rated Improvement. In 2018, we began implementing changes to renew our focus on academics through the implementation of our Academic Advancement Initiative (AAI). The AAI is instrumental in ensuring we are focused on student learning by providing teachers with a cohesive and aligned curricula, data analysis during professional learning communities, and observation/feedback cycles to improve teacher practice of high effect size facilitation of learning strategies. Recently, we added a fourth big rock that will focus on increasing our graduation rate, which is part of our work on postsecondary workforce readiness. By focusing on four big rocks, we are truly defining what is important: our students and their success.

Learning Opportunities

As part of our focus on academics, we offer high interest learning opportunities to all students. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics or STEAM is offered at all schools to all students in early childhood education through 12th grade. STEAM education fosters an inclusive learning environment where all students are able to engage and contribute. It helps students to build both technical and creative skills. Through the design thinking process, students learn how to self-direct, collaborate, problem solve, think critically, and apply their creative skills. Ultimately, this leads to six unique pathways for students in high school: Sustainable Agriculture & Green Energy, Computer Science, Engineering/Manufacturing/Design, Digital Media, Visual & Performing Arts, and Biomedical Science. These pathways cross over into our Career and Technical Education course offerings. Englewood Schools also offers Concurrent Enrollment courses which affords the opportunity for students to take college level courses while in high school.

Outside of the classroom, all students have access to low-fee athletics, engaging clubs, and a plethora of activities. From our core academics to STEAM to concurrent enrollment, Englewood has something for everyone. With the opening of our new schools in Englewood, we are embracing the opportunity to have the instruction and learning match the beauty of the facilities in which it takes place.
