Dear Englewood Schools Community,

Late on January 16, we were informed by Englewood Police that they are actively investigating a pipe bomb that was found in the field by Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice. The device was discovered by a community member who immediately called Englewood Police. Arapahoe County Bomb Squad took possession of the device and cleared the area. No other devices were found.

While we have no reason to believe this incident is connected to our schools, it is still very concerning. The safety of our staff and students is our highest priority. In addition to our standard safety protocols, our security and facilities personnel will be increasing their inspections of our schools and grounds for the foreseeable future. We will continue to partner with and work alongside Englewood Police as they investigate this matter and work to keep our schools and community safe.

I know that we are all on high alert during these turbulent times. Please reach out to Englewood Police if you see anything suspicious in our community, regardless of the location. Because a community member called police upon seeing a suspicious device, no destruction or harm occurred with regard to this incident, for which we can all be grateful.

Please know that now and always, Englewood Schools will work tirelessly to continue to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff members.

We will continue to keep our community updated on any new developments in this ongoing investigation.

Sincerely,

Wendy Rubin, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Englewood Schools
