Board to Make Decision on Elementary School Plans

On May 17, the Facilities Long-Range Planning Committee made a recommendation to the Board of Education that the district investigate options to renovate or rebuild the district's dated elementary school buildings and preschool facility by pursuing a bond issue in November.

At a special meeting on June 28, expert architects presented potential remodel or renovation options for Englewood's four elementary schools and preschool facility. The architects provided renovation/addition drafts for each building as well as outlines for a complete rebuild to detail all possibilities in bringing these aging buildings to optimal safety standards and into a renewed learning environment.
The Board will vote on a final decision of whether to pursue a bond issue to rebuild or renovate on Tuesday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Maddox Community Room (700 W. Mansfield Ave.) The public is invited to hear the plans and to make comments.

Opening of School Information

Dear Englewood Colleagues,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am thrilled that we soon will be welcoming the classes of 2017 through 2029 (and beyond at the ECE!) into our buildings. Each and every person who works in our school district is instrumental to the success of our students, and I am excited to engage in our work this year with a renewed focus on our Englewood kids and all that they can achieve.

Our new tagline – Belong and Thrive - applies to students and adults in Englewood Schools. Being part of an organization that values high expectations, accountability, integrity, respect and community allows members of the organization to know that they are part of a greater promise and purpose. Our mission - Preparing all students for future success through learning, leading, engagement and action – speaks to the work we do every day, in every school, with every child, in Englewood. Our vision – Graduating the leaders, thinkers and explorers of tomorrow – compels us to stay future-focused while we strive each day to ensure that students have left our classrooms having learned something completely new. Our new Strategic Plan captures the essence of where we need to direct our time and energy so that our tagline, core values, vision and mission come alive through collective focus and effort. It is an honor and a privilege for me to be a part of such vital and important work that has grown from a year-long collaborative process involving staff, students and community.

This year, our annual staff kickoff event will be held on Friday, August 5 at Fisher Auditorium on the TEC campus. I am looking forward to sharing more information about how the Strategic Plan will be shaping our work now and into the future. Every one of us has a significant role in ensuring our kids and our colleagues Belong and Thrive in Englewood Schools.

Staff: The Professional Development Outline for the 2016-17 school year is used to organize and personalize professional learning system-wide. You will notice that there are many learning opportunities. Some trainings will be district-wide, and some will be offered at each site. Leadership teams, staff needs, professional goals, and alignment to Unified Improvement Plans and the Englewood Schools Strategic Plan will determine the specific focus. Professional learning opportunities will be monitored and evaluated by leadership teams. All staff will have the opportunity to provide feedback after each professional learning session. This feedback will be used to monitor continuous improvement. This is a working document, and may change as needs of staff/system change.
