Staffing Updates - New Administrators

A few more staffing updates for the 2016-2017 school year: 
Leigh Pytlinski has been named the new principal/director of Early Childhood Education at Maddox. Leigh comes to Englewood Schools with 16 years of experience in education most recently as an elementary principal. Leigh has more than 12 years of experience in early childhood education and she is a licensed speech language pathologist.

Annessa Sinclair-Hart has been selected as assistant principal at TEC. Annessa comes to Englewood Schools with almost 20 years of experience as a teacher and instructional coach. This past year she completed a yearlong administrative internship in preparation to become an assistant principal. Annessa’s noted strengths as an administrator will be in the area of curriculum and instruction.

Nate Smith has been hired as assistant principal/athletic director at TEC. Nate has worked as an assistant principal and athletic director since 2009. Prior to becoming an administrator, Nate taught high school social studies for 7 years. Nate has achieved the designation as a certified athletic administrator from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.


Update on Negotiations

The Englewood Educators and the Board Negotiations Teams came together on May 16, 2016, for the fifth negotiations session this spring. The teams continued collaboratively discussing the planning time language issues, as well as compensation matters. This included discussion of health insurance increases, the PERA mandatory increase, steps, lanes, base increases, and other related financial matters. The teams were ultimately able to reach a mutual settlement on all issues.

The settlement will be presented to the EE’s membership for ratification. After a successful ratification, the settlement will be presented to the Board for approval.


PowerSchool Rollover

The PowerSchool rollover is scheduled for Wednesday, July 6. PowerSchool/Teacher will be unavailable that day. Once the rollover is complete, students will be in their 16/17 grade/school.
All staff will need to turn in their iPads for maintenance and upgrade over the summer. We can do this at a staff meeting or in person. Apple has completely redesigned the way iPads for education are managed and deployed. This will come with some very exciting new features and capabilities for staff and students alike. See “New Education Features in iOS 9.3 Open Many New Doors” for a summary of them. But this does mean that we need to do some work on all iPads that will take at least three weeks to complete. We will allow you to pick them up over the summer (June 17 and July 15) if you choose. Otherwise, you will get them back when you report to work in August.

When staff sign back into their iPad with their Apple ID, they will be able to reload any apps associated with it. But files, pictures, videos, or any other data they want to keep should be stored to Google Drive, iCloud, or other storage off of the iPad because the maintenance and upgrades will not keep data on the iPad. If you do not turn in the iPad, you will notice that apps begin to disappear off of it as we begin making changes to our iPad servers. So please turn them in before leaving for the summer.

Turn in iPads at a staff meeting or to the following staff members before the end of May. We would prefer to do this at a staff meeting or in person, but if someone must leave it for us, make sure there is no screen lock set and it is signed out of iCloud with a sticky note on it with name and Apple ID username & password. We apologize for the inconvenience, but trust us; teachers will like the upgrades next school year.

The Englewood Education Foundation provides grants to promote, implement and support innovative educational projects that are aligned with the vision and mission of Englewood Schools that are not supported through traditional school district funding.

All school district staff, administrative, certified and classified staff, students and parents are invited to apply.

Applications are due by Friday, June 24.

Google Apps on iPads PD Series
Englewood Schools has been a Google Apps for Education District for a number of years now. But we have a number of new staff and others who need some professional development on how to use Google apps for teaching and learning. This series is focused on teacher use of Google Apps with students. Nonetheless, all staff are welcome to participate. These are hands-on classes so bring your laptops/iPads. Relicensure credit will be offered for each session except June's. These are optional sessions. Attend as few or as many as you need. If registered participants exceed room capacity, a second session will be scheduled.

To register for a session, just find the event on the 2015-16 District Professional Development Calendar at https://www.englewoodschools.net/Page/4188. Then click on the event – more details. Then below the session description, find the attached link to the registration form, click on it, fill it out, and submit. You can also copy the event to your calendar. From within the details of the event, click on more actions – copy to [your calendar]. Alternatively, you can click on the event below to take you directly to the registration form for that session. These sessions will be team-taught by teachers and Technology Department staff. We hope to see you there. (There will be chocolate!)

Microsoft Home Use Program Now Available
You are now eligible to participate in Microsoft's Software Assurance Home Use Program (HUP). This program enables you to get a licensed copy of most Microsoft® Office desktop PC applications to install and use on your home computer.

Under the Home Use Program, you and our other employees who are users of qualifying applications at work (e.g. Office Enterprise) may acquire a licensed copy of the corresponding Home Use Program software (e.g. Office Enterprise) to install and use on a home computer. You may continue using HUP software while you are under our employment and as long as the corresponding software you use at work has active Software Assurance coverage.
