Celebration of Life for Dr. Dale Lumpa

A celebration of life for Dr. Dale Lumpa will be held at the Englewood High School field house (3800 S. Logan St.) this Sunday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m.

Dale worked as Principal at Charles Hay World School for eight years, then decided to go back to his first great love, Physical Education. He became the PE teacher at Charles Hay, and then eventually District Wellness Coordinator with Englewood Schools for the rest of his career. In this position he was able to continue his passion for integrating fitness and wellness into the lives of students, teachers, and parents. Dale retired in 2014 after 30 years in education.

Dale passed away on November 7, 2015 at age 54 near his home in Thornton, CO following a lengthy battle with cancer.
On Sunday, April 17, 2016, a memorial 5K run called The Lumpa Dash will take place at TEC. More information and opportunities to sign up will be available at the celebration of life.
Englewood Schools has been a Google Apps for Education District for a number of years now. But we have a number of new staff and others who need some professional development on how to use Google apps for teaching and learning. This series is focused on teacher use of Google Apps with students. Nonetheless, all staff are welcome to participate. These are hands-on classes so bring your laptops/iPads. Relicensure credit will be offered for each session except June's. These are optional sessions. Attend as few or as many as you need. If registered participants exceed room capacity, a second session will be scheduled.

To register for a session, just find the event on the 2015-16 District Professional Development Calendar at https://www.englewoodschools.net/Page/4188. Then click on the event – more details. Then below the session description, find the attached link to the registration form, click on it, fill it out, and submit. You can also copy the event to your calendar. From within the details of the event, click on more actions – copy to [your calendar]. Alternatively, you can click on the event below to take you directly to the registration form for that session. These sessions will be team-taught by teachers and Technology Department staff. We hope to see you there. (There will be chocolate!)

March 17th – Google Slides
April 20th – Google Chrome & Extensions

CTE Month Recognition
As Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month comes to a close, Learning Services wants to recognize Englewood CTE programs for providing engaging and relevant learning while reinforcing academic core standards. Englewood currently offers five CTE programs between the two high schools: Broadcast Journalism, Business, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts at the middle and high school levels and STEM at the middle and high school levels. In 2015, 504 Englewood students completed a CTE course and 66% of graduating seniors from EHS were enrolled in at least one CTE course. These statistics show student interest and success, so Englewood CTE programming continues to expand. CFHSC will launch a Sustainable Agriculture and Green Energy program for the 2016-17 school year.

Within all CTE programs are a variety of courses that provide students with technical and employability skills aligned to current industry demands and they receive guidance from an industry advisory board. In addition, each program associates with a local or national Career and Technical Student Organization that helps students build leadership skills, promote positive work values, and reinforce the CTE curriculum. Last year, our Future Business Leaders of America FBLA qualified 6 students to attend national level competition, and this year 10 students recently qualified to compete at the state-level competition. Englewood CTE adopts the Colorado CTE mission and our CTE teachers work tirelessly to provide a relevant and rigorous education that is connected, responsive and real.
