Important Information for Everyone

Due to some short-staffing issues (Mark Hickethier's retirement), the print shop's hours will need to be reduced for the foreseeable future. Using the print shop is the most economical way to produce large print jobs. But these reduced hours will require a little more pre-planning/lead-time to receive orders on time.

The hours will now be 7:00am - 3:30pm M-F unless arrangements have been made in advance with nicole_purcell@engschools.net. This booklet provides directions on how to place print shop orders. Please have orders for the next day in by 12/noon for on time delivery the next day. On particularly busy days, we may not be able to deliver by the next day so planning ahead is advised. We understand emergencies happen so call Ext 2094 and we will see what we can do. The print shop will be closed during the entire week of spring break (Mar 23-27th) and whenever Nicole Purcell might be out sick or on vacation.

As a replacement for paper assignments/handouts/student work, the Technology Department advises teachers to use digital means of instruction when practical. Google Classroom, Google Drive, eBackpack, and other resources can be used to teach students with their iPads and reduce their use of paper.

See http://www.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=3757273 for an inspiring story about how schools across the county are going more and more paperless.

The Arapahoe County E9-1-1 Emergency Communications Authority recently announced the ability to send a text message to 9-1-1.

The attached press release provides information for how to text 9-1-1 in an emergency.

When to text 9-1-1:
  • If you are hearing impaired.
  • When a voice call could increase a threat.
  • If you are injured and cannot speak.
  • If you are in a remote location and can only send a text message.

In the interest of open communication and fiscal transparency, Jon Kvale, Director of Finance for Englewood Schools will be meeting with staff and parent groups at each school to raise awareness and understanding of the state and local fiscal situation and its potential impact on the 15-16 school year and beyond. This will be an interactive discussion and an opportunity for the entire community to ask questions.

For more information about what will be included in the meetings, please see this PowerPoint.

Read about the grand opening of the Englewood Campus:

We have a new incentive for students to personalize their iPads. Students that view their iPad as their own tend to take better care of it and use it more for learning. Also, some students are very hard on their iPads and could use a tougher case to protect it. The Technology Department provides each student with a standard iPad case when they are issued an iPad. If the student wants to upgrade their iPad case to a better one, they can optionally do so at their own expense if a district tech support technician pre-approves the case. If a student wants to upgrade their case, they must get approval BEFORE installing the case on their iPad. Bring in the case (preferably still in the package) to your school’s technical support technician and request approval. If the case meets our high standards for safety and durability, it will be approved and a sticker will be placed on the back of the case to indicate that the district authorizes it. The old standard case must be turned in upon approval. Teachers should not allow students to use nonstandard cases unless they have a technician approval sticker on the new case.

Students are advised to purchase cases on the list found at https://www.englewoodschools.net/ipadcases or show a district technician a link to the case they are considering before purchasing a case. All cases will need hard plastic protection on all four corners and be just as durable as standard district cases. If a case was already purchased, and is not approved, the district is not responsible for the cost of the new case and the student will have to use the district issued case. When a student asks a staff member about upgradeing their iPad case, direct them to https://www.englewoodschools.net/ipadcases and tell the student to send an email to your school's support technican to arrange for a decision on case approval.

District Assessment Google Site

Aside from the assessment information teachers can find on our website, under for staff: assessments, the district has also created a Google site, which contains important links, training information, and key how to tutorials all in one location. We will continue to add to this site as more information becomes available. This is a good site to bookmark: https://sites.google.com/a/engschools.net/englewood-schools-assessment-training-materials/home

Acuity Feedback

Based on the feedback from the Acuity Feedback Meeting, we have agreed to create a survey to collect input from all teachers. You can expect that the survey will be released after form C is complete. The link will go to building principals and they will send it out when it is best for the individual school system.

The more responses we get, the more valid the results of the survey will be, so please take a few minutes to respond. We will use the results to evaluate the viability of continuing to use Acuity to meet our needs for benchmark assessments.
