To the families of TEC students: This year we, as a campus, have decided not to mail home final report cards. This will save us money on printing and mailing costs. As always, final grades will be available on the parent portal. If you do not have the parent portal or would rather have a hard copy of your student’s final grades, they will be available for pick up Tuesday, May 30th from 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in the middle school or high school main office. Please be advised that this will be the only time and place for hard copy pick up.
Guidance for Parents on 13 Reasons Why
Dear Englewood Families,
It has come to our attention that a recently released Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why has become popular among middle and high school students. This series relates to the very serious topics of teen suicide and depression, and some mental health professionals have concerns that it glamorizes teen suicide and could be a trigger for some students.
If your child has already viewed the series, we would encourage you to consider beginning a discussion about the series with your child. These talking points from the Suicide Awareness Voices in Education (SAVE) can get you started with a conversation if you are looking for guidance.
You can also refer to this letter from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) for even more guidance and information on the series.
If your child has not yet watched 13 Reasons Why, you may want to discourage them from doing so as several professional mental health organizations are of the opinion that it may not be recommended. Another option is to watch with your teen and use the talking points to discuss it with them as you do.
If you are interested in limiting this and other TV-MA shows from your child, you can find information on the parental controls on Netflix here.
If you ever feel like your child needs some mental health support, please reach out to us immediately. Your child’s counselor or school psychologist, or any other administrator will get your child the help he or she needs.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership. We care about our students and want to ensure their educational and emotional success.
Executive Director of Student Services
With summer around the corner, you may be thinking about what your child will do for meals while school is out. Englewood Schools wants to make it easy for you to find summer meals!
Students participating in Englewood summer school programs and Champions will have breakfast and lunch provided for them for free through Englewood Schools Nutrition Services and Food Bank of the Rockies.
For everyone else, free summer meal options are available throughout the state of Colorado. Englewood Schools will not be providing meals to the public this summer, but we will provide information on where you can find summer meal options as it becomes available.
Please feel free to monitor and review the following websites and hotlines for summer meal site information:
Keep an eye out for more information from us about where anyone under 18 can find and eat free meals this summer!
Hours and schedule: Our ELA school hours next year will be 8:20 – 3:25, with optional after school help until 3:50.
After school help: We do ask that students either stay until 3:50 in a classroom, or leave campus at 3:25. Other students at TEC are still in class until 3:50, so we need to be respectful and keep the academic atmosphere going. Also, teachers will be in classrooms helping students, so there isn’t supervision outside or in the halls during this time. We ask for your help in making sure students aren’t just hanging out on campus between 3:25 and 3:50.
Back to school night will be on Tuesday, August 9. New Families meet from 5:30 – 6:30 Returning Families meet from 6:30 – 7:00 This will be a chance to hear about what to expect at ELA for new families, and some important updates for returning families. If you’re planning on attending this fall but can’t make the meeting, please let us know. We understand that you have other commitments, but we worry if we don’t see you there!
All Student Check-In Day - August 10 drop in from 8:00 am – 6:30 pm. Students Grades 6-12 attending EHS, EMS and ELA are included, and parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend.
We will take our annual overnight trip to Estes Park on August 31 and September 1. We strongly encourage ALL students to go, as this trip strengthens our community with team building and problem solving activities that impact our students all year long. If your student will require medications on this trip, please be sure to get your medication forms filled in by your doctor prior to August 19, 2016. These forms are available on our website and at Back to School Night, with permission slips and waivers. We will also need some chaperones if you’d like to accompany us. We’ll provide more information about the trip at Back to School night as well.
