STEM Education

STEM image
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. STEM engages students in their understanding of the world around them. It inspires and prepares all students to succeed. STEM is not just science or technology or math or engineering. STEM combines learning from all content areas (reading, writing, math, science, and social studies). STEM instruction engages students with project-based learning, encourages students to solve authentic problems, and to work with others to find real solutions. In preparation, all teachers will receive professional development in Design Thinking, a way of designing STEM lessons and units. We will continue focusing on basic skill instruction in math, reading and writing, and incorporate STEM instruction in units throughout the year.

On October 14th, a few of our fifth graders had the opportunity to go to the Rocky Mountain PBS news station to film Super School News. They worked super hard preparing for it, and I think it turned out great! It aired on television this past week at 10:55 and 2:55 on Wednesday and Friday.
