Englewood Schools is proud to office AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at Englewood Middle School, Englewood High School, and Colorado's Finest Alternative High School.
AVID prepares students for the 21st century by providing the academic and behavioral skills necessary to succeed in college and the workplace. AVID develops learning, study and academic behavioral skills that are essential to success in rigorous coursework. It develops a culture of college readiness for all students. AVID impacts students schoolwide as academic strategies like writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organizational skills, and critical reading (WICOR ) are taught in all classes by teachers who have been trained to use AVID strategies in their specific content areas.
Students interested in enrolling in the AVID program at Englewood Middle School and Englewood High School must apply and be accepted. Acceptance is based on an application and interview process. Students may enroll in the AVID program begining in seventh grade and no later than the second semester of the sophomore year. All students enrolled at Colorado's Finest Alternative High School participate in AVID. All Englewood AVID program will accept AVID transfer students from other schools and districts at any time.
