Dear Charles Hay families,
We are excited to let you know that Charles Hay World School will be holding our second annual all-school science fair this year to encourage students to think and act like young scientists. All students are invited to participate. We hope you agree that the educational benefits are numerous, as students develop skills in writing, oral presentation, creative thinking, and problem solving.
Before school or at beginning of school on Tuesday, April 30th, participants will set-up their presentations and then, later that afternoon, guest judges will review each project and complete a feedback sheet. Our goal for the fair is simply to encourage an interest in science and engineering and to educate students about the scientific method.
Projects will remain set-up throughout the day on Tuesday, April 30th for classes to come and view and for participants to present their projects. There will be two sessions during the day--one for K-2 students and one for 3-6 students. Parents and other guests are invited from 2:00-3:00pm to view all projects and to help their children take their projects home. There will not be room to store these overnight so please know in advance that you will need to help you child pack up his/her project that evening.
Please note that some students will do all work at home. Students who wish to participate, but who do not have an adult mentor at home, can still participate. They can request a school mentor and will be partnered up with a Charles Hay staff member as their adult mentor. The project guidelines and timelines will be available on our Charles Hay website. Much of the work will be self-directed or family-directed. Parents are encouraged to offer guidance, emotional support and reminders.
Do not hesitate to call or email with any questions. Thank you very much in advance for your support! We look forward to being a part of inspiring budding scientists and encouraging creativity and building problem solving skills and critical thinking.
Attached are all the documents you will need. I will also send physical packets home with students once I know who is participating.
