Each spring, Englewood Schools’ students, as well as students across the state of Colorado, take state assessments that help us measure their academic growth and achievement. Students in grades three through eight take assessments in English language arts and math called the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS.) Students in grade nine take the PSAT 8/9, students in grade 10 take the PSAT 10 and students in grade 11 take the SAT. The assessments are aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards, which are expectations of what students should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. The results are posted here.

As a district, Englewood Schools saw large increases in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations in almost all subject areas in almost all grades. We are particularly proud of:

  • A 13% increase in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations in third grade English Language Arts
  • A 16% increase in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations in fourth grade English Language Arts
  • An 11% increase in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations in fifth grade English Language Arts
  • An 18% increase in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations in eighth grade Math

Overall, each of our schools saw gains in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations from the spring of 2017 to the spring of 2018.

  • Charles Hay World School had significant increases in seven of eight grades and subject areas tested.

  • Englewood High School saw an increase in the number of 10th grade students who are at or above benchmark in evidence-based reading and writing.

Based on these scores, and the overall growth of our students, we are proud to say that preliminary ratings by the Colorado Department of Education show Englewood Schools as moving up an entire rating level on our District Performance Framework. Many of our schools have also moved up a rating level, or even two, or they have maintained the “Performance” rating they had in years’ past.

The gains Englewood Schools experienced can be attributed to the hard work of students and teachers as well as the strong instructional leadership of our schools. In order to continue on this positive trajectory, we are focusing our efforts on what is called the Academic Advancement Initiative in Englewood Schools. Through a comprehensive curriculum in English language arts and math, teachers will be able to better plan for the needs of all students. Additionally, schools will have weekly collaborative meetings that will focus on actionable outcomes that are tied to performance data. With our honed strategy, we know Englewood will continue to be a place where all students Belong and Thrive.
