Dear Englewood Community,

As we enter the season of gratitude, all of us at Englewood Schools are so thankful for the support of our community and for your continued investment in your children's education. In 2016, Englewood voters generously approved a $97.5 million bond and a $1.5 million mill levy override to fund the rebuilding and long-term maintenance of our aging elementary schools and preschool. Now, two years later, we have two stunning new elementary schools, another near completion and two more under construction.

Working in collaboration with a talented team of architects and Design Advisory Groups with

staff and community members from each school, we are unveiling new school buildings that embody the highest quality learning environments. The new Clayton Elementary and Charles Hay World School opened in August and welcomed students into light-filled, inspired learning spaces that truly raise the bar for what educational environments can be for our children. Clayton and Charles Hay students are benefiting from state-of-the art buildings with beautiful, day-lit classrooms and collaboration areas that offer a variety of high quality learning spaces.

Both Clayton and Charles Hay have grand staircases that lead to bright, open hallways with wings that include collaboration spaces and technology to support different learning styles and techniques. Each building includes a Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) lab.

Cherrelyn Elementary, to be completed in time for the new school year in August, will have a unique design inspired to create a home-like atmosphere for student learning and will also include a STEM lab.

Bishop Elementary, to be finished in time to welcome students after winter break next year (opening January 2020), is specially constructed with a Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style architectural design. Join us for a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 1:45 p.m. to help us kick-off construction on our final school construction project!

Finally, I'm especially excited about the new Early Childhood Education at Maddox building,

to be completed in just another month or so. Our youngest learners will be welcomed into the new building at the start of the spring semester in January. Previously, our ECE programming was housed in older buildings not specifically designed for the needs of preschool students. With the completion of the new ECE building, students will be welcomed into a state-of-the art facility that is designed to support philosophy and programming specific to their needs. Students will be introduced to four outdoor and two indoor play areas because

we believe learning through play is one of the most important foundations for the intellectual and social development of our youngest children. We prioritized providing our ECE students with high quality, diverse play areas in which they can learn and grow.

ECE at Maddox is going to be one of the best preschools and preschool environments in Colorado. Please join us for a celebration and be among the first to tour the gorgeous new building on Tuesday, January 8 from 4-6 p.m.

Thank you for helping us to provide the best for our students and to ensure they have inspiring and high quality educational experiences. Every one of our schools offers something unique and special - overwhelmingly, our students are thriving.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Kindest Regards,

Wendy Rubin, Ed.D.

Did You Know?

The 2016 Englewood Schools Bond and Mill Levy projects upgraded more than just our schools. The projects provided $1.5 million in city improvements, including new sidewalks, drainage and other infrastructure upgrades. This benefits all residents and helps to keep our city's infrastructure up to date and in good working condition.
