Important Calendar Changes

Dear Englewood Families,

As you are already aware, the Englewood Schools Return to School Task Force is working tirelessly to ensure that students can return to school in the fall safely. The Task Force is planning for both in-person and remote options for families.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to be part of an advisory group to review the Task Force’s work. We will be following up with those who have signed up soon.

However, at this time, we want to give you an important update to our calendar, based on the Task Force’s work so far. Last night, the Board of Education approved a calendar change that pushes back the start of the school year by two weeks, so that students will start the week of August 24. This additional two weeks will be used for staff training needed to ensure that Englewood Schools staff members are prepared to address all student needs: emotional, physical and educational even with the new safety and health protocols we will put into place. It will also allow us to prepare the physical buildings for the new protocols and distancing.

Additionally, our new calendar allows for a slow rollout to make sure we have time built in to make changes, move furniture and adjust cleaning protocols as needed.

Students will begin on August 27, instead of August 13th.  Specifics with regard to what the first two days back will look like by level will be communicated in July once the return plans are finalized. The following week of August 31, students will attend school three days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The next week will be Labor Day week, so students will attend 4 days, as previously scheduled. This graduated start will allow students to adjust to being back in a classroom again as well as to help us see how drop-off, pick-up, wellness screening, food service, and other new protocols are working and to modify plans in real time if need be.

Our highest priority remains the safety and wellness of our students and staff members. This calendar change helps us ensure that our practices are keeping everyone safe.

Champions summer care will continue to operate until the beginning of school, and will be open on the non-school days during our gradual start. Those students who will opt-in to online learning only will be following the new calendar as well.

Please see the new, approved calendar here.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Kind Regards,

Wendy Rubin, Ed.D.
Superintendent
