April 21, 2020
Dear Englewood Schools Families,
First, I want to thank you all for your flexibility and support as we have navigated unprecedented times over the past month. We miss all of our students terribly, but we love having the opportunity to see them connecting with their teachers and principals through remote learning.
Last Day of School will be May 15
I wanted to share with you some further calendar changes that are coming as a result of remote learning. In order to be able to collect devices from students, we are going to move the last day of instruction for students to one week earlier than our originally scheduled date. This means that the last day of formal remote instruction for students will be on Friday, May 15. The week of May 18 will be for device collection. It is very important that you are available that week to turn in your students’ devices so that you are not erroneously charged for the cost of the device. Your child’s school will be in contact with you regarding the specific date and time of your student(s) device turn-in. In order to properly clean, disinfect and update all devices in preparation for next school year, this very important step must occur before we officially begin summer break.
Another calendar change of importance to families is that Friday, May 1 will be a student instructional day. This was originally on our calendar as a professional development day for our teachers, but this will now be a regular student learning day.
We’d also like to invite you to a very special end of year event. On Saturday, May 23, we will be celebrating our graduating seniors from Englewood High School and Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice in two parades! At 10:00 a.m., families and community members will be able to cheer for graduates of EHS along Logan Street as students proceed in vehicles starting at Duncan Park as they head to Englewood High School. Later that same day at 12:00 p.m., families and community members can cheer for graduates of Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice as they head south on Delaware Street from Oxford Ave. to Colorado’s Finest.
Parents, family members, friends and community members will be able to cheer our Class of 2020 graduates along both parade routes. The parade routes will allow for safe social distancing while our graduates are celebrated for their awesome accomplishments. Students will drive under a balloon arch at their respective school and receive their diplomas once they arrive in the parking lot of their school. Given the current restrictions, a traditional graduation ceremony is not possible for the foreseeable future. However, we wanted to find a way to celebrate our graduates safely and involve family and friends before some join the military or continue on to other adventures beyond Englewood. Our partners at Englewood Police Department will help to ensure that the parade route is safe for our students and that safe social distancing measures are adhered to at these celebratory events. More detailed information from our high schools about the event will be coming soon for our graduates and their families.
In summary, we will be having a regular learning schedule until May 15, 2020. May 1 will now be a student learning day, and not a professional development day. Please be ready and available to return your student devices the week of May 18, 2020. Your child’s school will let you know the exact date and time of device drop-off. And finally, please join us on May 23 to honor our graduating seniors!
Thank you again for your commitment to our schools and your students’ learning.
Wendy Rubin, Ed.D.
