Update on Negotiations
The negotiating teams for the District and the Englewood Educators have been diligently meeting throughout the spring, utilizing an interest-based bargaining approach for negotiations. The teams have reached a number of tentative agreements on language issues and have discussed compensation matters as well. While there is currently not another negotiations session scheduled, the teams continue to communicate about reaching settlement and are planning to meet again. Due to the end of the school year and scheduling challenges, the teams may not meet again until August. Although the Negotiated Agreement and its Memoranda of Understandings would expire on July 31, 2014, the District and the Englewood Educators would continue operating as if they were in full force and effect. The teams are committed to maintaining the District’s relentless focus on learning and increasing student achievement throughout the District. Reaching settlement following the conclusion of the school year and the Board’s statutorily required budget adoption in June should not distract anyone from this educational mission.
Information for Teachers and AdministratorsFree Common Core Math Workshop for TeachersBack to Top
With the advent of the Common Core, many teachers are being asked to teach mathematics in ways that differ significantly from how they learned it. We provide an opportunity for teachers to experience mathematical problem solving as learners. Teachers will develop their own facility with using the Standards of Mathematical Practice from the Common Core while working on engaging mathematical activities. Problems will be selected from many areas of mathematics – geometry, number and operation, algebra, and probability and statistics. We also have ongoing discussions related to implementing problem solving and the Standards of Mathematical Practice in the classroom.
Elements of this overall program:
•Participating in a learning community focused on mathematics
•Learning mathematics through rich tasks that provide the opportunity to expand one’s own mathematical understanding
•Focus on the Mathematical Practices and 21st Century Skills
Kathy Richardson/Math Perspectives Classes This SummerBack to Top
Aurora Public Schools will be hosting two Kathy Richardson/Math Perspectives classes this summer in Aurora and we would love to have teachers from other districts join us. Two sessions will be offered:
Developing Number Concepts K-2
Understanding Numbers 3-5: Developing Computational Fluency
Both classes will take place June 24-26 at Tollgate Elementary (near Alameda and Chambers in Aurora) from 8:30-3:30. Go to www.mathperspectives.com to register and get more information.
We have hosted these classes for years and teachers continually say it’s some of the best learning they’ve had in terms of understanding how children learn mathematics and how to develop mathematical understandings in their students.
Please share the information and invite your teachers to join us in Aurora!
While it may seem logical that the longer you exercise (time per day), the better your results in terms of overall fitness and body fat. But a new study reveals that this is not necessarily the case.
Click the link below to learn about how incorporating a range of exercise types, and consuming a certain amount of protein helped improve lean muscle mass, lower glucose, and improve overall health in an inactive adult population:
